The completed interior in 1893. Note the almost cathedral-like proportions with no screen dividing the chancel and nave.

Looking towards the chancel showing the first dividing screen in place. This screen remained until 1908.

This picture dating from 1908 or shortly after shows the new enlarged screen, which remains in the church to this day.

[A short description of a meeting of the Chapter of the Holy Grail at St John's in 1915.]
Although some 20 members of our Chapter are serving their Country, our Festival on Corpus Christi, 1915, if we were to compare with other years was the best. We started the day with a Celebration at 6.15, and that was in itself a forerunner of God's blessing, and at that service who could help thinking of those 500 other members of our Guild who have thought it their duty to add to the loving weapons of the Cross the cruel weapons of nations, how they must wish after being under fire in the trenches or after a weary day's march to be once more in the Sanctuary of peace and holiness, kneeling before the altar in the calm sweet Presence of their Saviour at an early morning Celebration.
At 7 p.m. we passed a very pleasant hour in St. John's Hall ; refreshments were provided by Mrs. Moreton Turner for the fourth year in succession.
At 8.15 p.m., in St John's Church, we solemnly sung our now more familiar Guild Office. We were able this year to add to its dignity and beauty by the Cantors wearing copes, the Rev. Bernard Hardy and Mr. Parish acting as cantors. A very appropriate sermon was preached by the Rev. J. N. Newland-Smith, Vicar of St. Mark's, Marylebone Road, shewing the wonderful power of the Blessed Sacrament, joining us all together in one body as a vine and its branches. After the collection, which amounted to £2. 5. 9d., for the Ordination Fund of the Guild, there was a Solemn Procession with all the symbols of our holy faith, the taperers and banner-bearers being khaki-clad Servers.
It was a beautiful service, and the sermon was very helpful ; the thoughts expressed in it were just those which should serve to bind us closer together and perservere in making our work more worth of acceptance.
